Sri Lanka’s civilization which spans more than 20 centuries, is eloquently recorded in its historic cities and citadels and in masterpieces of architecture, art and sculpture. Significantly, the island contains 6 cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites, mainly located in The Cultural Triangle.

The Cultural Triangle that encompasses the cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy showcases the architecture, sculpture and engineering feats from the 3rd to 14th century A.D., a golden age marked by economic prosperity, the arrival of Buddhism and sporadic invasions from the Chola Kingdom

Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site at the centre of The Cultural Triangle, is a magnificent ‘fortress in the sky’ with swimming pools, fabulous landscaping, stunning frescoes and mirror walls. Constructed in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, this marvel of ancient engineering boasts winding staircases, weaving pathways and a Lion’s paw entrance, and is considered the 8th wonder of the world.
